About Me
Crystal Sawyer was born and
raised in Miami, FL. She was introduced to music with piano lessons in
elementary school. After being accepted into a magnet middle school, she also
became a church musician; her duties included accompanying the congregation,
sight-reading, and the children's choir. While attending Miami Killian Senior
High, she performed in the Marching Cougar Band and the Jazz Band. Prior to
graduation, she received the Silver Knight Nomination in English and Literature.
After sustaining a back injury, she was unable to audition for music schools at
the collegiate level. She was able to begin her studies with an academic
scholarship at Florida International University. As she recuperated, she
explored the world of the harp at her father’s suggestion. It wasn’t long before
she began performing at special events and with orchestras. She graduated with a
Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She continued her musical studies
at Florida Memorial University where she performed with the Ambassador Chorale.
She received a graduate degree in Reading and began teaching harp ensembles.
The Lady of Harp freelances throughout the South Florida area as well as
internationally for various events from weddings to the most creative of
parties. She recently began composing different works for artists of all genres
(dance/poetry/visual) while continuing to improvise over modern day tracks for
recordings and live performances. The release of her debut CD, “The Beginning”
featuring original compositions as well as improvisations was released in 2010.
She collaborates with different artists in order to present new ideas in
addition to teaching privately.
FACILITATION OF KNOWLEDGE
My background in education affords me the pleasure of presenting this wonderful
instrument in various instructional settings. I offer presentations as a way of
informing the community about the wonders of this beautiful instrument and how
it touches people all around the world. Music offers endless benefits including:
stress relief, increased concentration, critical thinking, self-expression,
problem solving, and risk-taking. Connections between music and other art forms
are easily made. Cultures around the world celebrate with this beautiful
expression of the human experience.
HARP DEMONSTRATIONS
The harp is a rare instrument that fascinates many people. Children and adults
are often quite taken by its angelic sound and elegant presence. An educational
presentation gives the audience an opportunity to gain a better understanding of
this wonderful instrument in an intimate setting. My musical background and
repertoire are discussed as well as the types of performances that I execute.
This is perfect for: nursing homes, schools, camps, womens’ groups and much
more! For more information, email: info@ladyofharp.com or call 786.390.8214
PRIVATE LESSONS
Perhaps you have always dreamed about playing the harp. Others may want to
supplement their childrens’ academic education with exposure to the arts.
Private lessons are a wonderful way to explore the world of music. Previous
musical knowledge is welcomed but is not a requirement. Lessons are given on a
weekly basis at a scheduled time that is convenient for both the student &
instructor.
HARP CIRCLES
This exciting gathering is offered as an extension of private study. It is
organized as a group of private students that want to get together and jam under
guided instruction. It has served as the pool for staffing various performing
ensembles such as The Harp Fairies & The Fairy Ring.
